The Financial Diaries for Empowerment (FDE) Research Project is seeking one or more motivated and skilled people to assist with the financial diaries research process. The ideal candidate is a senior undergraduate or a graduate student or inner-city community member with knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods and Winnipeg’s inner-city.


Research Project Background

The Financial Diaries for Empowerment Research Project seeks to understand the problem of financial disempowerment and examine a variety of practical and policy actions being taken to foster financial empowerment. The project will use the financial diaries methodology to understand the financial dynamics of vulnerable Canadians in a rapidly changing socio-economic context. This includes understanding the barriers and opportunities that they face in trying to improve their financial and overall well-being.

The R.A. Position

The research project is hiring one or more highly motivated persons to:

  • Assist the Principal Investigator and research team to test and finalize the research methods. This includes active involvement in the recruitment of and relationship-building with participants.
  • Interview diaries respondents, record conversations with quantitative and qualitative components, in preparation for data cleaning and analysis.
  • Assist in updating social media and website.


The Term & Workload

The term of the position is from September 2017 through June 2018. To start the workload will involve approximately 10 hours/week.


The Wage Rate

The wage rate will follow the rates at Canadian Mennonite University.
